Making an Election Day On The Cheap

What better way to spend the Election Day than traveling around Germantown MD picking up the freebies. My neighbors and I hit the voting place around 10:30. With just a fifteen minute wait we had some time to kill. We decided to take advantage of the Freebies from some famous foodies.
First to Krispy Kreme Donuts for a free Red, White and Blue sprinkled donut at the Falls Grove center in Rockville(The wait for the donuts was longer than the one to vote). The employees seemed to be suffering "traumatic stress syndrome" as the store was inundated with patrons. Of course no donut can be eaten without a cup o Jo...so, it was off to Starbucks this time at the Milestone Center in Germantown for the free cup.The staff was ready for the crush of people and was very polite and helpful. They made a mild attempt to "add-on" other items. We ate the donut and drank the coffee outside the Starbucks. Funny, nothing tastes quite as good as "Free Food" except perhaps your mom's home cooking.

Then there was California Tortilla at Century Plaza in Germantown MD. Their deal was a coupon today for a Taco tomorrow. Perhaps I misunderstood the press release,I thought it was free Today. I was reminded of Blimpy from the old Popeye the sailor cartoon...I'll glady pay you Tuesday for a Hamburger today. The counter persons seemed somewhat upset that we didn't take them up on their offer to buy something today. It felt like the typical come on and shifty sales gimmick. Shouldn' be surprised for a joint that sells mediocre food at high prices.
Next up: The overdue promise of Universal Health Care....see you soon.
